Trying To Understand Politics In Quebec These Days–Part 1–Is Sovereignty Really Dead? The Potential Resurrection of Gilles Duceppe

I had heard nothing from the federalist media, particularly from those from the right who say nothing but sovereignty is dead in la belle province. The evidence they have? Well, some polls, which I do take with a grain of salt–the usual suspects–Leger Marketing.  Sadly, that is all most Quebecers have to work . . . → Read More: Trying To Understand Politics In Quebec These Days–Part 1–Is Sovereignty Really Dead? Francois Legault Finally Announces Official Launch of His New Provincial Party–Coalition pour l’Avenir du Quebec Tomorrow

Well, boys ‘n’ girls, it looks like this is the moment many have been waiting for; the moment where Francois Legault’s fictitious party becomes a reality.  He is to announce this tomorrow.  It should be interesting to see how those same polls who had Legault on top, as a fictitious party, will have . . . → Read More: Francois Legault Finally Announces Official Launch of His New Provincial Party–Coalition pour l’Avenir du Quebec Tomorrow

Upcoming By-Election In Bonaventure is Something Quebec Voters Should Be Watching And Why I am Rooting for The Liberal Candidate

The by-election in the Gaspesie riding of Bonaventure will be held on December 5–less than a month from now.  It’s a by-election, much like last year’s by-election in Kamouraska-Temiscouata, will be one to watch. The task at hand is to elect a successor to former natural resources minister and deputy premier, Nathalie Normandeau, . . . → Read More: Upcoming By-Election In Bonaventure is Something Quebec Voters Should Be Watching And Why I am Rooting for The Liberal Candidate

Trouble In Pequiste Paradise–This Time Over That White Elephant For a Non-Existent NHL Franchise

I always knew this would happen eventually. Perhaps not over that ridiculous proposed hockey amphitheatre of Regis Labeaume’s in Quebec City for the non-existent resurrection of the Quebec Nordiques, but I knew that despite Pauline Marois’s whopping 93% approval vote at her leadership review last April, that the knives would still be continuing . . . → Read More: Trouble In Pequiste Paradise–This Time Over That White Elephant For a Non-Existent NHL Franchise

“Parlons Quebec”–Sure, Let’s Talk Quebec–After April 15, Perhaps?

Lately, the Bloc Quebecois have been seeing their polling numbers drop by pretty much every polling firm these days. While they still hold a commanding lead, and 308.com’s last seat projections pretty much have the Bloc remaining in tact, with one gainp–Portneuf-Jacques-Cartier currently held by independent Conservative, Andre Arthur.  So, why are the . . . → Read More: “Parlons Quebec”–Sure, Let’s Talk Quebec–After April 15, Perhaps?

Such Hilarity

Well, well, well. Stop the presses boys ‘n’ girls. They call themselves “Coalition pour l’Avenir du Quebec”–Coalition for the Future of Quebec. CK’s Predictions For 2011 – Good, Bad and The Ugly

Some will be predictable. Some, many will chide me for being pessimistic; I call it realism, but anyway…  These are my predictions. If any of my co-bloggers and contributors have any predictions, they’re strongly encouraged to do their own posts about them. It would be interesting indeed. Anyhow, on with the festivities as . . . → Read More: CK’s Predictions For 2011 – Good, Bad and The Ugly

“Stars” Shine in Federal By-Elections; Not So Much In Kamouraska-Temiscouata

Well, I noticed that a good many in Vaughan seem to prefer glitter over substance in voting in Robocop Fantino, but only by the slimmest of margins.   Will this mean an early winter election? Could be, if Steve wants to ensure that Fantino run again…as mentioned before, I don’t see Fantino enjoying the . . . → Read More: “Stars” Shine in Federal By-Elections; Not So Much In Kamouraska-Temiscouata

Kamouraska-Temiscouata–The Quebec Version of Vaughan & Why Canadians Should Pay Attention To This By-Election Race–(UPDATE)

While Canadians are keeping an eye of the three federal by-election races happening today, particularly the hotly contested riding of Vaughan, there is a Quebec provincial by-election happening today as well–Kamouraska-Temiscouata.  Like Vaughan, this by-election is also the test of  leadership.  The fate of premier Jean Charest and Parti-Quebecois leader, Pauline Marois will largely . . . → Read More: Kamouraska-Temiscouata–The Quebec Version of Vaughan & Why Canadians Should Pay Attention To This By-Election Race–(UPDATE)

OK, Pierre Curzi, Now You’ve Really Sunk To a New Height of Embarrassment! And Maybe Helped Harpercons In the Process!

When an ex-pat of twelve years who only recently returned from Japan a few months ago to somewhere in Ontario, far from the Francais Paranoiaque, gets wind of  the leader of the opposition Parti Quebecois’s latest and perhaps most idiotic and embarrassing antics, I think my readers outside of Quebec can understand my . . . → Read More: OK, Pierre Curzi, Now You’ve Really Sunk To a New Height of Embarrassment! Is Pauline Marois Lying or is She Being Shoved Out The Door By Gilles Duceppe?

Gilles Duceppe has been throwing a monkey wrench into the overpriced G8/G20 festivities by sending letters to world leaders promoting Quebec sovereignty.

“As I am sure you are aware, Quebec is a nation in its own right,” Duceppe wrote in the English version of the letter, dated June 9, 2010. “There is a . . . → Read More: Is Pauline Marois Lying or is She Being Shoved Out The Door By Gilles Duceppe?

Just a Question—Perhaps a Movement Outside Canada To Promote Quebec Sovereignty

I have heard many progressives outside of Quebec expressing preference to the Bloc Quebecois of all parties. I have heard a few who would seek refuge in a sovereign Quebec, should Steve get his majority, which is looking more and more likely these days.

In order for this to happen, obviously Quebec would . . . → Read More: Just a Question—Perhaps a Movement Outside Canada To Promote Quebec Sovereignty

A Fall Election? A Provincial One in Quebec, That Is

If Pauline Marois has her way we could well be going to the polls come as soon as this Fall, or maybe even late this summer.

Yes, Jean Charest has a majority and has until 2013 to call an election.  However, after ousting Tony Tomassi and the potential for more to go either . . . → Read More: A Fall Election? A Provincial One in Quebec, That Is

Atta Boy Gilles! Now, Watch the Harpercons’ Knickers Bunch Up!

It would seem that since yesterday,  Gilles Duceppe referring to those involved with the  Quebec Sovereignty movement as ‘Resistants’, thus supposedly comparing themselves to the French Freedom Fighters in WWII, is splashed all over the news;  it seems to be coming a close second after health care reform passed last night.

Even hacks . . . → Read More: Atta Boy Gilles! Now, Watch the Harpercons’ Knickers Bunch Up!

Quebec Seems to Have the Will But Do They Have the Means?

Awhile back, I wrote that Gilles Duceppe started reviving separation in commemorate the  anniversary of the failure of the  Meech Lake Accord and that Pauline Marois was promoting a greener sovereign Quebec.

While I consider myself middle of the road these days where Quebec sovereignty is concerned, I still expressed a few concerns, . . . → Read More: Quebec Seems to Have the Will But Do They Have the Means?

Quebec Sovereignty Movement Making a Comeback?

I first caught hint of this in, oddly enough, the Edmonton Journal, a paper from a highly conservative province that has not only never made any secret about wanting Quebec out of Canada, but a lot of the most conservative Albertans would love to separate from Canada themselves as they seem to think . . . → Read More: Quebec Sovereignty Movement Making a Comeback?
