Toe, I agree with you. Part of the problem last year was the timing: Canada was fresh out of an election when that coalition was formed.

Nobody it seemed wanted to know facts. Nobody wanted to take the time out to understand the terrible predicament Stephane Dion was under. Two undesirable choices; form a coaltion with other opposition or accept Stevie's budget statement of more military spending in Assghanistan (Thanks Montreal Simon for the term!), no economic stimulus when other G20 countries were putting together stimulus packages and of course, He wouldn't even admit we were in a recession; cutting out that 1.95$ per vote for the parties, which would have garnered just as much or even more backlash than the former. It would have hammered the final nail into the Liberal coffin, not to mention an even bigger disaster in Canada.

No, part of the trick to get Canada behind a coalition is to form before the next election. Which I think will be sooner rather than later. I am certain Stevie is going to revisit that 1.95$ per vote thang again and he would take advantage of Layton's illness.

Sister, yes, I wish to see more posts like this. It truly is our only chance if ever we want something left recognizable of Canada.
Today's Tyee says same thing in case you missed it.
An open letter to Michael Ignatieff, Jack Layton and Elizabeth May for an arrangement amongst the three opposition parties.

We need a Deal NOW, not after the election.
